Philly mural will show brotherly love to The Roots
PHILADELPHIA - November 7, 2011
Officials announced Monday that the Grammy-winning hip-hop group
will be the subject of a mural in the city. The eight-month project
will include a storefront art studio and arts education programs
for students.
Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson and Tariq Black
Thought" Trotter formed The Roots in 1987 after meeting at
Philadelphia's High School for Creative and Performing Arts. They
are the house band for "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" on NBC.
The city's Mural Arts Program is soliciting proposals for the
design at www.muralarts.org. The mural is planned for a funky
shopping area known as South Street and is expected to be unveiled
next summer.
It will be one of more than 3,500 murals across the city.
