Phillies' security staff raise funds for rare disease

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - November 13, 2011

The workers gathered at McFadden's in South Philadelphia to help raise money for children born with Prader-Willi Syndrome.

The rare disease has no cure.

Several staff members started the event six year ago to help co-worker Mike Stermel, whose son was born with the disease.

"We thought it was going to be a onetime thing, but these guys, they've been awesome," said Stermel.

All proceeds from the night's festivities benefit the Ball Park Security Charities and the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research.

"It's a great time for a good cause. It keeps growing, we get support from all of our friends, from the stadium and the people we meet in the stadium," said Steve Glamer, event organizer.

If you would like to get involved and support the cause, the Phillies' security staff holds other charitable events throughout the year.
