Officials say a Sussex County councilman seriously injured last month when his small plane crashed in a field in central Virginia has been moved to a hospital in Philadelphia.

Vance Phillips was discharged from the University of Virginia Medical Center on Nov. 11 and transferred to Jefferson Health System's Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. He is expected to stay there for a few weeks undergoing physical therapy.

Phillips suffered a fracture to his spine in the Oct. 30 crash. Police say his three-wheeled North Wing "trike," which is similar to a hang glider, landed too fast and at a steep angle.

The 49-year-old from Laurel, Del., has been a councilman for 13 years.
