NJ police officer accused of firing shots in grave

ALPHA, N.J. - November 18, 2011

Phillipsburg Police Detective James Stettner II is charged with shooting his gun within 300 feet of a residence.

The shooting took place early Monday in United Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Alpha at the grave of Jason Frey, who died in 2003.

Police say Stettner was with Frey's former girlfriend.

The Express-Times of Easton, Pa., reports police said the detective initially denied knowing anything about the shots. Police dug up about two feet of the grave in a bid to recover bullets after finding shell casings at the site.

Police say the detective later admitted to the shooting, saying it was a celebration toward Frey.
