Fifty-seven-year-old Janet Gitney was arraigned Friday on theft charges. Authorities say she transferred the man's house to her name and utilized power of attorney authority to plunder from his accounts.
Prosecutors say Gitney transferred the victim's Hatfield home into her named, moved him to a nursing home and drained $100,000 from his retirement accounts.
Gitney was arrested at JFK International Airport last month after arriving in the U.S. from the Philippines.
Authorities say Gitney abandoned her own father when she fled the country. He died in October while she was out of the country.
A message left for Gitney's attorney wasn't immediately returned Monday.
