SPCA: A dozen cats pulled from feces filled home

LAWNCREST - December 20, 2011

The discovery was made Tuesday afternoon at a home on the 6300 block of Lawndale Avenue.

What they found startled even veteran investigators.

"One of the worst houses I think I've ever been in, literally covered in feces from top to bottom. Almost every place you could imagine covered in feces," said George Bengal with the Pennsylvania SPCA.

Agents removed five to six dead animals and nearly a dozen cats still alive from the home.

The homeowners were taken into custody and charged them with numerous animal cruelty offenses.

Their house was deemed unfit for human habitation.

Bengal says the first step is to get mental health treatment for the suspects.
