No injuries in fire at Pa. hospital MRI unit

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - December 29, 2011

There were no injuries reported in the fire, which broke out at St. Luke's Hospital-Riverside in Bethlehem Township around 7 p.m. Wednesday. It happened in the MRI unit, which is just outside the emergency department.

Hospital spokesman Stephen Andrews says a patient had just completed using the MRI machine when the fire happened. He says the fire was contained to the MRI unit, but smoke did get into other areas and patients needing the emergency department were diverted to another hospital.

The cause remains under investigation.

The hospital campus opened in the fall.
