The shooting happened around 8:00 p.m. along the 700 block of Townsend Place.
Arriving officers found a man on the ground with gunshot wounds to the back.
Medics worked feverishly on the man before transporting him to Christiana Hospital where he later died.
The man's identity has not been released pending notification of family.
At this time there is no word on a suspect or a motive.
