Mrs. Fixit: Embellish with Newspapers

June 2, 2012

You can easily make your own gift bows with newspaper. All I did was cut nine strips and twist and loop and secure them in place.

You can also easily make pretty paper roses to embellish your gifts. Or tassels for a bottle of wine! Don't worry about the how to, I'll post a full bow, flower and tassel tutorial online!

Another fun idea is to fold news paper strips into a mat for a photo frame. For nice crisp edges, iron the paper at all of the folds. You can make the mats as wide or as narrow as you want and it gives the photos a great look.

I also like to make seedling pots from old newspaper. You need a wine bottle with a dimpled bottom and newspaper.

Cut newspaper strips up to where the bottle starts sloping in toward the neck and so that it will go around the bottle a couple of times.

Lay the newspaper so the top is about halfway up the bottle and roll it around the bottle. Fold the bottom in pressing it into the dimple. Then slide the pot off of the bottle.

Flatten the bottom and carefully fold over the top of the pot. Then just plant your seedlings. tTe great thing about these is that you can plant them directly into the ground when you're ready for transplant! I'm Mrs. Fixit and it's just that simple.
