The Philadelphia Police Department says an officer fired twice during a incident involving a mentally unstable man in the Germantown section on Friday morning.

Police were called to the 400 block of East Penn Street around 11:00 a.m. for a report of a man exposing himself.

A bike officer arrived and found the man, who allegedly started throwing items - including a barbecue grill - around the rear of the home.

The officer called for assistance and eventually fired his or her weapon two times.

No one was hit by the gunfire. The man was eventually stopped with a Taser and was taken into custody.

The man was described by police as a "mental patient," but his exact condition was not known.

An investigation into this incident continues.
