Even hospital stay didn't stop voter

PHILADELPHIA - November 6, 2012

Danny Canakis of Springfield, Delaware County is one of them.

He's voted in every election since John F. Kennedy became president back in 1960

.

"He was a great guy - good president," says Canakis.

So an unexpected stint in the hospital wasn't going to stop him.

Saturday night, Danny was admitted to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for heart problems.

Today, he had his daughter drive to Media and back twice so he could cast an emergency absentee ballot.

Choking back emotions, he told Action News why it was so important to vote.

"It makes me proud to be an american, because the American soldiers, they die for us...we gotta do something for them," said Danny.

The hospital says Danny wasn't alone in his determination. It helped 55 patients in all get emergency ballots, including several who wanted to get discharged long enough to cast their votes.
