The accident happened at 4:40 a.m. on the Route 1 Superhighway in the northbound lanes near Timber Lane in Middletown Township.
Police say a Cadillac sedan collided with an Infinity sedan.
25-year-old Mark Smith of Philadelphia sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
38-year-old Rasheed King from Philadelphia was injured in the crash and transported to St. Mary's Medical Center.
At the time of the crash, there were reports of one of the vehicles travelling in the wrong direction in the area.
The investigation is ongoing and Middletown police are requesting anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have any information to contact Officer Stum at (215) 750-3845 ext. 482.
