Camden renaming city hall after late ex-mayor

CAMDEN, N.J. - November 12, 2012

Primas was a Camden native who was first elected to the City Council in 1972 at the age of 23, making him the youngest council member ever.

In 1981, he became the first black mayor of the city.

Primas later served as commissioner of the state Department of Community Affairs and also was Camden's state-appointed chief operating officer.

A ceremony to rename the historic building after Primas is scheduled for Tuesday.
