The incident happened around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday on the 4000 block of City Avenue.
The security guard tells police he noticed suspicious activity in the garage area and fired at a suspicious person, who was not hit and fled the scene.
The guard was not injured.
Police are investigating his actions.
