Anna Marie Drummond, 22, from the 4300 block of I Street, was a passenger in one of the two cars involved.
Police suspect excessive speed played a part in the accident, which happened at 11:10 p.m. on Red Lion Road near Haldeman Avenue.
According to police, a 2005 Mercury Marquis and a 1994 Mercury Marquis were travelling side-by-side eastbound when the 2005 Marquis hit the median strip and the driver lost control.
The cars criss-crossed. The 2005 Marquis hit the other car, then crashed into a tree and burst into flames.
Drummond was in the front passenger seat of the car that caught fire. Investigators say she died on impact when the vehicle hit the tree.
Anna Marie's fiance, 22-year-old Troy Hall, was at the wheel and suffered a broken leg. Her 16-month-old son Troy was strapped into his car seat and a minor cut to his lip.
Both were taken to Aria Health Torresdale for treatment.
The second car spun out and ended up in the left lane of Red Lion Road.
The driver, Troy Hall's friend, 24-year-old Antoine ,was not hurt. A 19-year-old woman in the front passenger seat and a 1-year-old boy in a rear car seat were taken to Aria Torresdale for observation.
Police say Troy and Antoine were allegedly drag racing when the two cars sideswiped each other.
There were hugs and tears as family and friend's gathered at Anna Marie's mother's house Tuesday afternoon. /p>
"She was so lively. She was so full of life and she was such a good mother," Anna Marie's mother Darlene Drummond told Action News.
They say she was the sparkplug of the family.
"She was so full of joy, she would walk in a room and she would light it up," Darlene said.
The family says, even with a toddler and another baby on the way, she was planning to return to school in January to finish her nursing degree.
She was planning a wedding with the father of her children.
Her family says they don't blame him.
"He loved my daughter. I know he loved my daughter. I can't blame anybody right now. I'm just hurting because I don't have my daughter anymore," Darlene said.
Police are investigating.
