The accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on Justice Street near Augustine Street.
Police say 33-year-old Charles Ray, was behind the wheel of a vehicle when he lost control and ran across several lawns. Ray then crashed into the Old Newport Town Hall building.
Officials say Ray, who was driving with a suspended license, faces charges for DUI and speeding.
The force of the crash left a gaping hole in the structure. Damage is estimated at about $50,000.
