Package triggers explosives sensors at Delaware National Guard base

NEW CASTLE, Del. - April 21, 2014

A spokesperson for the National Guard says a UPS delivery truck arrived at the base entry gate off of Commons Boulevard around 11:00 a.m. Monday to make a delivery.

Something onboard the truck triggered sensors at the gate, indicating the presence of some sort of explosives.

The gate was promptly shut down and a few hundred people from buildings near the gate were relocated to other areas on the base.

An explosive ordinance disposal team investigated, focusing on four packages inside the truck. However they were quickly able to determine that the packages were not dangerous, and the all clear was given at 12:24 p.m.

It is still not known exactly what was in the packages that set off the explosives sensors.
