FREE DANCE LESSONS IN NORTHERN LIBERTIES
World Dance Day returns for its fifth year of free alfresco dance performances and lessons at The Piazza at Schmidt's.
Presented by the 954 Dance Movement Collective, a public work space for dance companies, commercial performing artists, dance teachers and independent artists, World Dance Day celebrates dance of all sorts — swing, fox trot, hip hop, salsa, classical Indian dance and more. Dance performances begin at noon on Sunday, April 27 and last for an hour, from noon to 1 p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. Local dance groups are slated to perform a variety of types of dance.
From 1 to 2 p.m., guests are encouraged to put on their dancing shoes and learn the moves to classic dances like belly dancing, line dancing, hip hop and salsa at 20-minute sessions that last for the duration of the hour.
Admission is completely free to the World Dance Day celebration.
World Dance Day officially falls on Tuesday, April 29, but the 954 Dance Movement Collective is celebrating the soirée a few days early, on April 27, so all can enjoy some outdoor weekend fun.
