It happened around 6:30 p.m. at the Hughes State Justice Complex at 25 Market Street.
Fire was reportedly coming from the 8th floor in a high voltage heating room above the state attorney general's office.
It took crews about two hours to bring the flames under control.
No one was injured.
The amount of damage is still being assessed.
Investigators believe the cause was electrical.
