PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The two-night Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band performances in Philadelphia have been postponed due to an apparent illness.

The shows were scheduled for Wednesday and Friday at Citizens Bank Park.

"Due to Bruce Springsteen having been taken ill, his concerts with The E Street Band at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on August 16 and 18 have been postponed," read a statement posted by Bruce Springsteen on social media.

Citizens Bank Park confirmed the postponement, adding that new dates to see "The Boss" have not been announced.

Fans outside the ballpark were bummed after learning the news.

"We had general admission tickets, so we have been here since 10 a.m. to try to get a good spot," said Samantha Doyle of Manahawkin, NJ.

"I was number 5 in line and then got here at 7:45 a.m., cooked in the sun for about six to seven hours, went to go get some merchandise, came back and everybody's phone started blowing up," said Jesse Saul of Haddon Heights, NJ.

Fans say they heard the soundcheck, but not Bruce. So they're hoping the boss is OK.

"For that to happen three hours before we were about to be let in, something had to happen cause they wouldn't have set up the stage," said Saul.

Fans are encouraged to keep their tickets as they will be valid for the rescheduled performances.

Meanwhile, there was a rumor that some sort of sinkhole at Citizens Bank Park may have led to the postponement. However, that's not true.

Officials say there was a pipe that burst under the warning track earlier Wednesday, which has since been filled.
