CAMDEN (WPVI) -- Police say they have charged the man who ruined a popular youth football field in Camden, New Jersey.

Alexander Peters, 20, from Gloucester City, was charged for the vandalism at the Malandra Hall Community Center last week.

It's in such bad shape, it's too dangerous for kids to play on.

On top of that, police say Peters also confessed to spray painting a swastika on the property.

Police said on Tuesday that losing this facility puts local kids in jeopardy.

"It's not always safe for them to play. The park is their safe haven, whether for one hour or two hours, and it's their time to feel freedom and to be a kid and they damaged that," said Sgt. Janelle Simpson. "It could take two weeks and they could be wandering the streets and you never know what could be happening."

Peters is charged with third degree criminal mischief in this case, but was already behind bars because he was just sentenced on Friday to aggravated assault in a separate case.
