Man cleared of most serious charge in crash that killed Neumann University student

MEDIA, Pa. (WPVI) -- A Delaware County man has been cleared of the most serious charges stemming from a crash that killed a teenager.

Jonathan Vanderhorst of Clifton Heights was on trial for causing the crash that killed 18-year-old Dante DeSimone.

In January 2014, Vanderhorst hit another car along the 500 block of Baltimore Pike.

The wreckage then plowed into DeSimone who was on the sidewalk.

The jury acquitted Vanderhorst of homicide by vehicle while DUI, but did find him guilty of driving under the influence.

The misdemeanor offense carries a maximum penalty of six months in prison.

DeSimone, a 2013 graduate of Upper Darby High School, was a freshman at Neumann University at the time of his death.
