St. Joseph's Hospital to close in March

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- St. Joseph's Hospital is closing its doors come March 31, 2016.

St. Joseph's Hospital at 16th and Girard is closing, and being consolidated with Girard Medical Center, its sister hospital at 8th and Girard.

North Philadelphia Health Systems says it's reconfiguring its care, possibly shifting to more mental health and addiction treatment.

St. Joseph's employs 675 people.

The hospital was founded in 1849 to care for Irish immigrants flooding into Philadelphia.
