Officials say man's best friend may also have benefits for little boys and girls.

A small study found children between four and 10 years old who had a pet dog were less anxious - specifically when it comes to social and separation anxiety.

However, having a pup didn't seem to make a difference in the amount of physical activity the kids got or their weight.

A larger study will need to be done to confirm the results.
