No active shooter found on Delaware State campus, police say

DOVER, Delaware (WPVI) -- Delaware State University was locked down for nearly two hours Tuesday morning after reports of a possible active shooter on campus, university officials said.

At 10:03 a.m., university police sent out an emergency alert by text and email to the university community about the possible shooter after anonymous texts were received by students of a potential shooter.

The "active shooter protocol" was activated and all buildings were immediately locked down, officials said.

At 11:45 a.m., following a sweep of all buildings, police said the campus was clear and no active shooter was found.

Convocation was canceled, and all classes and events for the remainder of the day have also been canceled, officials said.

"I want to emphasize that there was no active shooter on campus, our protocols functioned as intended, and police units responded immediately. I want to thank everyone for their cooperation and clear thinking in this event," said Executive Vice President/Provost Tony Allen.
