UCLA's football team has teamed up with the Defense Department for a three year study on concussions and brain injuries.

27 players have volunteered to wear sensors in their helmets that will measure every hit.

The information is transmitted to a laptop.

And if a hit registers too high, a signal goes off telling trainers to check the player.

It also records where the impact occurred.

That will help trainers spot if an athlete isn't using proper technique or is putting himself at a greater risk.

The sensors will also help determine how all hits - violent or not - affect the brain.

Fifteen colleges are involved in the study.
