Arrest made in string of car mirror thefts

GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - January 17, 2008

Jose Santana Jimenes, 18, was arraigned Wednesday on felony charges of auto stripping and criminal mischief in mirror raids in Greenburgh in November and Tarrytown this month. Together, they involved more than 50 cars.

Jimenes was being held without bail. Information on his legal representation, and whether he had entered a plea, was not immediately available early Thursday.

No telephone number could be found for him at the Bronx address authorities gave.

Tarrytown and Greenburgh police compared fingerprints they found on cars that had been stripped of their mirrors, saw the prints were the same and then matched them to fingerprints New York City authorities had on file for Jimenes, Tarrytown Lt. William Herguth said.

Greenburgh police have said the mirrors are relatively easy targets for thieves, who can sell them to junkyards and auto shops for $10 to $20 apiece.
