Man arrested after he flees up tree

BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (AP) - April 22, 2008

Police say it took negotiators about three hours to get the man to climb down from the tree at the 215-acre Brentwood Country Club and take him into custody.

Police say the 43-year-old Central Islip man tried to visit the home of his ex-girlfriend, even though he was barred from going near her. The woman's daughter called authorities, and the man fled. Police dispatched canine, aviation and emergency services units to hunt him down.

Police say he is charged with criminal contempt for violating the order of protection and resisting arrest.
