The accident happened around 6:45 a.m. at the intersection of South Madison Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Police tell Action News the driver of the SUV that hit the pedestrian did stop at the scene. There's no word about charges at this point.
The victim, a man in his 60s, died at Christiana Hospital, suffering from multiple internal injuries.
Maryland Avenue is closed at Adams Street for traffic headed into the city of Wilmington.
