Springsteen's Madame Marie dies

ASBURY PARK, N.J. (AP) - July 1, 2008

Sally Castello tells the Asbury Park Press her great-grandmother, Madame Marie Castello, died Friday. A memorial service is Tuesday.

The psychic reader and adviser was in her mid-90s.

Castello told fortunes on the Asbury Park Boardwalk since the 1930s.

She became famous worldwide in 1973 when Bruce Springsteen paid homage to her in the song, "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)."

His lyric, "Did you hear, the cops finally busted Madame Marie for tellin' fortunes better than they do," cemented her fame.
