Hit and run victim identified

WARMINSTER, Pa. - March 4, 2009 48-year-old Jestine Chatman was struck and killed by a car just after 9:00 p.m. Tuesday on Street Road and Jacksonville Road in Warminster.

Police say Chatman ran into the street, and may have been running to catch a bus. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, identified as 75-year-old Frank Gallagher of Warminster, tells police he thought someone threw something at his car and he kept driving. When Gallagher arrived home, police say he saw the hit and run story on the news and called police.

Gallagher went into police headquarters for questioning where he was submitted to a blood test, though police say they do not believe he was under the influence.

Authorities impounded his damaged Nissan Maxima. It had a shattered windshield, smashed hood and bumper.

Police say even though this may have been a terrrible accident, Gallagher may face criminal charges for leaving the scene.

It's now up to the Bucks County District Attorney to decide if charges will be filed.
