WEB EXTRA: Video of the robbery, caught on tape
Police say the suspect was between 18 and 25 years old, wearing a red St. Louis Cardinals hat, a red leather jacket, and had three gold teeth.
He also had a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, which he used to hold up the cabbie.
The suspect forced the driver to take him to a Chase Bank in Ewing, held the gun on the man, and tried to force him to give up his ATM number.
"He told me when he felt the suspect push the gun harder in his neck, he thought that was it," said Det. Bob Litz of the Ewing Police Department.
That's when the cabbie grabbed for the gun and a fierce struggle began.
"Both were trying to gain control of the gun. In doing so, a shot was fired," Det. Litz said.
No one was hit, but the minivan was literally shaking from the fight, which then spilled outside.
At one point the cabbie jumped back in the van, slammed the door shut and took off. The suspect then ran away.
The victim's co-workers at Brother's Taxi hope the high-quality surveillance video will help cops locate the suspect.
"We want to catch him and put [him] in jail. We want it. This is our expectation," said cab driver M.D. Faisel.
