New Castle Co. cutting worker pay

After most New Castle County union workers agreed to a pay cut last week, county officials say nonunion employees' pay will be cut 5 percent in the coming fiscal year too. County officials announced Wednesday that 157 workers agreed to the pay cut. County Executive Chris Coons says it will save $900,000 in fiscal year 2010, which starts July 1.

Last week, three unions accepted the 5 percent pay reduction, which will save $2.2 million. However, Local 3911, the emergency services workers union, rejected the plan. Negotiations are ongoing with Lodge 5 of the Fraternal Order of Police.
