Holiday travel expected to be down

WILMINGTON, Del. - May 22, 2009 - 6abc.com TRAVEL LINKS: That's because drivers are sticking closer to home, and the rising price at the pump is the reason why.

The price of a gallon of regular along I-95 in Delaware is $2.45, up 30 cents from a month ago.

But, it could be worse.

"We have to remember we're still a long way from wehre we were this time last year when we were creeping up to that $4 a gallon gas," said Ela Voluck of AAA.

Those who are hitting the highway better mind the rules of the road, because police will be out in full force.

"You're going to see more troopers out there, and if you're caught and you're observed driving aggressively, speeding, you should expect to get a ticket," said Cpl. Jeffrey Whitmarsh of the Delaware State Police.

With the weather expected to be pretty nice this weekend, AAA suspects many drivers may decide to hit the road at the last minute.
