B-SIDE PROPHETS BIO
The B-Side Prophets came to fruition during the Fall of 2006 when local Philly songwriter TJ Leis presented a collection of his own work to the acoustic duo of Matt Kresge and Bernie Gillespie, better known as Philly's own Shady Groove. The fusion of TJ's melodic sensibility along with Bernie's incomparable ear for harmony immediately breathed new life into these songs. Having recently received the 'Best Guitarist of Philadelphia' accolade from the nationwide Emergenza Festival in 2005, the addition of Matt's creative guitar work lifted the songs to an even higher musical plateau. It was clear that something musically special was unfolding. The addition of versatile drummer Mark Swartley and percussionist Jay Rose proved to be the final necessity for the distinct B-Side sound.
Upon first listen, it becomes clear that The B-Side Prophets greatest asset is musical diversity and dedicated harmonies. Drawing on styles ranging everywhere from Reggae, Folk, Brazilian, Ska, Rock, Americana and more, The B-Side's eclectic mix of music and emphasis on melody quickly gained the attention of Philadelphia audiences and promoters alike, landing gigs at The Grape Street Pub, The Trocadero main stage, as well as earning 'featured artist of the week' honors at The World Cafe Live.....all within the first 6 months of their inception.
Fresh off their first release, 'Down In Illadelphia', the band has received airplay on WXPN, becoming one of Helen Leicht's coveted 'Philly Local Pick of the Day' choices. The band is anxious to perform their current material for Philadelphia audiences everywhere. Keep your ears on the alert!!
