Teens showcase talents at Kimmel

PHILADELPHIA - July 2, 2009 The 4 camps the Kimmel Center is operating, offer teenagers, ages 14 to 18 an opportunity to perfect and showcase their many talents.

Students from the Chorale Camp demonstrated what they've learned the past few weeks Thursday.

The culminating event at the Kimmel Center's Perleman Theatre today, presented ensemble and solo performances by more than 60 teenagers, ages 14 to 18.

Today's program included scenes from West Side Story and from the Wiz.

The students audition for the camp, and receive a full-tuition scholarship for the 2-week session. They undergo intensive coaching sessions and study with teaching artists at Kimmel's Merck Arts Education Center.

They come from all over the region and even Canada.

First thing Monday morning, the Kimmel Center's summer program will feature its Jazz Camp, which will be followed by a two week organ session and then a chamber camp.
