Man gets life for girlfriend slaying

PHILADELPHIA - August 11, 2009 Forty-year-old Eric Nathaniel Johnson was sentenced Monday after being convicted on charges of first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse and other charges in the death of 40-year-old Jean Jackson in 2007.

Authorities say Jackson's beaten and mutilated body was found in a vacant lot in the Port Richmond neighborhood on March 31, 2007. Investigators believe her face was mutilated in an attempt to conceal her identity.

Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Selber says Johnson killed Jackson so another woman could move in with him.

Defense attorney William Bowe says he plans to appeal.
