State troopers responding to a call Saturday for an 88-year-old woman who needed medical assistance found 60 goats, seven pigs, six cats and two dogs living in and out of the home on the edge of town.

Police say the woman lives at the home with her 63-year-old son, who is under hospice care.

The SPCA says the residence was not a farm and animals were living in filthy, freezing conditions. Some of the animals had died.

Delaware State Veterinarian Dr. Heather Hirst says no diseases were found in any of the animals. Thirty goats were removed Saturday and another 30 will be removed Tuesday.

The SPCA says several rescue groups will take in some of the animals.
