Major snowfall hits Southern NJ

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - January 30, 2010

A steady snow that developed Saturday afternoon was expected to continue through the evening hours. More than 6 inches had fallen in parts of Cape May County by 7 p.m., while about 3 to 5 inches were on the ground in many nearby areas.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Cape May County, where up to 8 inches was possible, and for Atlantic, Burlington, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem counties, where 4 to 6 inches was expected.

Meanwhile, a winter weather advisory was in effect for Camden County, here 1 to 3 inches was expected.

Northern Jersey communities were expected to see little, if any snow before the storm left the region early Sunday.
