NJ student killed in Medford crash

MEDFORD, N.J. - March 16, 2010

Authorities say 18-year-old Deanna Ormerod of Mount Laurel died when her 1996 Honda Accord crashed into a 2006 Honda Accord around 3:45 p.m. Monday on Hartford Road.

The crash happened in the southbound lane. Ormerod was travelling north at the time of the crash, police said.

Ormerod was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other car, 65-year-old Edward Thorn, was flown to the hospital with chest and lower leg injuries.

On Tuesday, Lenape High School posted a letter on their website alerting the students and parents about Ormerod's death.

School officials say grief counselors were made available. They conclude the letter by inviting parents to contact the counseling center if they feel their child needs help dealing with their loss.

"I just really miss her. It's hard. I saw the cars yesterday and I didn't know what to think, I didn't know it was her," said student John Drawner.

"You would always remember her with a smile and, like, just making everyone laugh," said student Stephen Antonio.

According to a school website, Ormerod was an award-winning musician.
