Derek Mayhew, 37, of the 300 block of Country Club Drive in Newark, is charged with two counts of first degree indecent exposure.
The incident happened around 7:00 p.m. Thursday inside the Goodwill store in the Newark Shopping Center.
Police say two children, a three-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy, were inside when the suspect pulled down his pants and exposed himself.
The children immediately told their parents. Police were called, but by the man had fled the store.
However, an officer from the Office of Probation and Parole had seen Mayhew in the area, and knew he was a registered sex offender. That officer was able to identify Mayhew as the man who exposed himself.
Mayhew was arrested on Friday and charged.
He was sent to prison in default of $1,500 bond.
