Overturned sugar truck hampers Philly-area commute

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. - May 12, 2010

The accident occurred at 4:22 a.m. in King of Prussia. The truck was traveling from Yonkers, New York to Lancaster, Pennsylvania carrying 49,000lbs of liquid sugar to make Twizzlers.

The cab of the truck was crushed after it hit the concrete median trapping the driver. The driver had to be extricated.

The truck also began leaking its load of liquid sugar. Clean up crews were on the scene throughout the morning rush hour.

The driver has hip and hand injuries and was transported to The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

The tractor trailer was removed around 9:50 a.m. and all lanes are now open.
