The blaze broke out at about 3:15 on Wednesday morning, in a house on the 7300 block of Torresdale Avenue in the Mayfair section of the city.
Firefighters scaled ladders to get to the second floor where the woman was trapped.
Paramedics took the 51-year-old victim to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Investigators are still looking for the cause, but say the fire started in the basement.
Crews managed to get the fire under control in about 15 minutes.
