Amcor said its Lehigh Valley plant will shut down by November. A company spokesman said it's closing due to the tough economy and a shift in corporate strategy.
The Bethlehem plant handles packaging for pharmaceutical products such as over-the-counter and prescription drugs and veterinary items.
Australia-based Amcor also serves the food, cosmetics, and tobacco industries. It reports $14 billion in annual sales and 35,000 employees worldwide.
