Mom shares couponing tips with other moms

HAMILTON TWP., New Jersey - July 14, 2010

They share advice and experiences. And often, the topic of money comes up. "When I had my son in 2007, we very quickly went down to one income," Huston explains.

Stephanie's efforts to save money led her to become a self-taught expert on couponing. Now, she has a website and a Facebook page called "Raising a Family on a Budget."

"In 2009, I tracked (our spending) over six to seven months and we saved over 3000 dollars," Stephanie says.

At this week's Moms meeting -- which is open to the public -- she'll be sharing some of her tips.

The meeting will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2010, at the Robert Wood Johnson Hamilton Center for Health and Wellness, One Hamilton Health Place, Hamilton, N.J. 08690. For directions, click here.

"For a lot of these moms, it's the first time they are on one income or they just think it's too time-consuming to clip coupons and actually save some money," Huston says.

But Stephanie says she spends just a few minutes each day, while her children are napping, to clip and organize coupons, and sign up for samples, which often come with additional coupons.

She also checks out websites to see how to match coupons with weekly sales.

"There are some great links online where someone else has done the work for you," she says. "So not only do you know what coupons to match up with the sale items, but if it's an online coupon, they also give you the link so that you can just print it right from your computer. "
