DRPA to consider delaying toll hike

CAMDEN, N.J. - November 16, 2010

Delaware River Port Authority board members on Wednesday are set to consider a resolution to postpone a $1 toll increase for one year at the Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman, Betsy Ross and Commodore Barry bridges.

Pennsylvania Commissioner John Dougherty is seeking the delay, saying motorists would have a tough time paying a $5 toll. He supports using a portion of $54.5 million in unspent economic development funds instead.

But Deputy Chairman Jeffrey Nash told The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill he doesn't expect the board to vote on the delay without an analysis of the authority's bond rating and bond covenant.

PATCO fares are still slated to rise 10 percent in January.
