Police were called to the report of a shooting on the 1500 block of South Garnet Street at around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
Authorities found two people suffering from gunshot wounds.
A 31-year-old man was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
The other shooting victim was taken to Jefferson University Hospital suffering from multiple gunshot wounds from the neck to the feet and is listed in extremely critical condition.
Police have not announced any arrests or what led to the shootings.
