Wind-whipped Friday night

February 25, 2011

In the unit block of Duchess Avenue in Evesham Township, New Jersey, a massive tree about 100 foot tall came crashing down on a home. The home was heavily damaged and declared uninhabitable by authorities. Fortunately, no one was home when it happened.

In the 2000 block of Cedar Bridge Road in Northfield, New Jersey, trees swayed back and forth as strong gusts of winds blew off and on.

"The wind is unbelievable, I mean you could see it right now with my hair," said Jennifer O'Donnell.

And it wasn't before trees began falling, one of them right unto a home.

"I watched it break right off in half into my neighbor's roof, I was blown away," said O'Donnell.

Meanwhile, in Prices Corner, Delaware a giant billboard in the 3200 block of Kirkwood Highway, came crashing down unto a bowling alley. A dozen patrons were inside at the time, but fortunately nobody was injured.

In Claymont, Delaware, Heather Musgrave had the scare of her life when a large tree came crashing down on her home late Friday.

"I thought it was thunder at first, but it was longer and louder, a scary, scary noise," said Musgrave.

"The first thing I thought of was my son in his crib, and so I ran upstairs and the tree had not done any damage to his room, praise the Lord," said Musgrave.

In Marcus Hook, strong winds blew the roof off of a couple of row homes in 1000 block of Green Street.

"I thought the refinery exploded, it was so loud," said Kristen Forester.

Elsewhere in Clifton Heights, Delaware County, Robin Link thought the winds were about to lift her home right out from under her.

"We've been getting heavy winds all along, but then to come out and your house is like the Wizard of Oz almost," said Robin Link.

"The tarp went up, and then all the shingles and stuff started flying outside down the street," explained Ryan Anthony.

There were no serious injuries being reported across the region.
