It happened Tuesday about 6:35 p.m. in the community of Forest Knoll in Newark. The three boys told police they were walking home when they were accosted by two boys, about ages 11 to 13. One had a handgun.
The suspects ordered the victims to empty their pockets, but the boys tried to run away. The youngest victim was pushed to the ground and struck several times.
The boys ran back to help their friend and one of them was struck. The suspects then ran away empty handed.
The victims were not hurt.
