3 injured, including mayor-elect, in Del. crash

NEW CASTLE, Del. - April 17, 2011

At around 5:30 p.m. Sunday police and medic units were called out to 6th Street and Merit Drive for the report of an accident.

Their investigation revealed a vehicle traveling south on 6th Street lost control and traveled into the northbound lanes and hit three vehicles.

The driver of the striking vehicle was trapped; after freeing the driver, rescue crews transported the driver to Christiana Hospital in extremely critical condition.

Two other people, including the Mayor Elect of New Castle Donald A. Reese, were injured in the accident. They are being treated for their injuries and are expected to fully recover.

Action News has learned Mayor Elect Reese's swearing-in has been postponed from Monday night to a later unspecified date.

Police are continuing to investigate.
